Karen DeToro

Karen DeToro was named president, worksite division of CNO Financial Group in January 2024, and is responsible for sales and operations of the company’s worksite business. She previously served as CNO’s chief actuary from September 2019 to December 2023, leading actuarial, insurance product development and risk management for the company. Prior to joining CNO, DeToro held executive leadership positions in finance operations, product development, underwriting, strategy and governance at New York Life, including serving as vice president and chief actuary of New York Life Direct. She was a principal at Deloitte Consulting, where she led its Insurance Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and Actuarial Transformation initiatives. DeToro also has held actuarial roles at both Allstate Financial and EY. DeToro received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and English literature from Butler University and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a concentration in finance, managerial economics, strategy, and organizational behavior from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University. She is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA), member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA) and executive sponsor of CNO’s PRISM LBGTQ+ Business Resource Group.

The Davey Risk Management Program was recently formed within Butler University’s School of Business to provide a focused educational program in risk management and insurance | Chairman / Member, Board of Directors | Chicago Training Center 2010 – 2015. This non-profit organization uses the sport of competitive rowing, combined with mentoring, travel opportunities and academic support, to help underserved Chicago youth achieve their potential | Member, Board of Advisors | Butler University Actuarial Science Program – Indianapolis, IN 2009 – 2015. The Board of Advisors supports the University’s Actuarial Science program by providing support and advice to program leadership and working directly with students through mentoring and on-campus visits | Chairman/Member|Joint SOA/CAS Career Encouragement Committee 2002 – 2007. This committee was charged with developing awareness of the Actuarial profession among high school and college students and their key influences, including teachers, guidance counselors and parents.
