Anna M. Rappaport, F.S.A. Anna Rappaport is an actuary, consultant, author, and speaker. She completed 45 years as a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries in 2008. Anna is a nationally and internationally recognized expert on the impact of change on retirement systems and workforce issues. She is available for independent consulting assignments and keynote speaking engagements. She has helped many organizations think through their strategy with regard to retirement benefits. She is passionate about improving the retirement system in America, and is particularly concerned about the many women who do not fare well at older ages.

In her organizational participation, writing and speaking, she brings forward important issues and works to ensure that those who can act on them have information on important facts and options. Long before Workforce 2000 was a popular issue, Anna was writing and studying the implications of our changing demographics for financial security systems. The topics she focuses on include the future of employee benefits, strategy for pension benefits, implications of an aging workforce, phased retirement, post- retirement risk, retiree health, Social Security, and about how women will fare in retirement.

She was appointed to the Department of Labor’s ERISA Advisory Council in 2010, and also serves on the GAO’s Retirement Security Advisory Board. She was a delegate to the 1998 and 2002 National Summit on Retirement Savings. She was the first chair of the Consumer Education Committee of the Actuarial Foundation and continues to be active in that effort. She has been a leader in the planning and management of several major research projects by the actuarial profession focused on enhancing retirement security in America. Anna was a member of the 2003 Technical Panel of the Social Security Advisory Board. She is a frequent speaker and contributor to business and trade publications, and is the co-author of three books on the topics of demographics, retiree medical and retirement. Anna is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and has a Master’s of Business Administration from the University of Chicago. Workers in Employee Benefits named her Employee Benefits Professional of the Decade. She has won a number of awards. See her website for details of these awards. Anna served as President of the Society of Actuaries from 1997 to 1998 and is currently a member of the Boards of the Women’s Institute for a Secure Retirement (WISER), and the Pension Research Council. She is a Trustee Emeritus of The Actuarial Foundation.

Anna Rappaport, F.S.A. retired from Mercer Human Resource consulting at the end of 2004 after 28 years with the firm Prior to working with Mercer she spent the years from 1958 – 1976 in the life insurance industry. After retiring from Mercer, she started Anna Rappaport Consulting, focusing on Strategies for a Secure Retirement.
