The Census, published since 1998, captures information on the status and trends of women's representation as directors, executive officers and top earners. These statistics serve as indicators of the degree of inclusion of women in positions of significant authority and compensation in the business world generally. The data can be reliably tracked because they are available in the public record.
The Chicago Network Census also provides useful insight on the issue of female advancement, including excerpts from research studies and samples of best practice strategies to create change in the status of women. We are confident that by highlighting the role of women in the region's corporate and nonprofit life, we will further the cause of women throughout the region and the country.
The Chicago Network is a founding member of the InterOrganization Network (ION). Founded in 2004, it consists of ten regional organizations in the United States that advocate the advancement of women to positions of power in the business world, especially to boards of directors and executives suites of public companies. ION's current members include: Board of Directors Network in Atlanta, The Boston Club, The Chicago Network, The Forum of Executive Women in Philadelphia, Inforum Center for Leadership in Detroit, Milwaukee Women inc., Women Executive Leadership in Fort Lauderdale, Forum for Women Entrepreneurs and Executives in California, The Central Exchange in Kansas City and The Financial Women’s Association of New York, Inc. By combining their energies, the members of ION seek to leverage their strengths, expand their influence and substantially increase the number and percentage of women who comprise the leadership of corporate.
